hallway. Billy, a fifth grader who wears glasses, heads to his
locker. He’s carrying a huge stack of books. A group of
boys, standing nearby, start teasing him.
Chris:
Hey look, it’s the four eyed nerd! (everyone laughs)
John:
Check out those stupid looking pants he’s wearing. Where did you get
them, a garage sale? (everyone laughs)
Chris:
Watch this!
Narrator 1:
Chris knocks his books all over the floor. (still more laughs) Billy
is scared!
Narrator 1:
A few of the students feel bad that the boys are teasing Billy. They
are just watching, but not brave enough to say anything. The bell
rings and the students start heading to the next class. The
bystanders wait until Chris and John leave and head over to Billy.
Bystander 1:
I’ll help you pick them up Billy.
Billy:
I hate those guys! They never leave me alone! I never did anything
to them!
Bystander 2:
Hey man, are you ok?
Billy:
Why didn’t you help me? Why didn’t you go get a teacher? Why didn’t
you do something? Anything…..
Bystander 2:
are you crazy man? I’d be labeled a snitch or a rat! They would be
after me then!
Narrator 1:
Billy opens his locker and checks his phone. There is one text
message that says: We will get you nerd!
Billy is afraid. He feels instantly sick to his stomach.
Who sent it? How did they get his cell phone number? Billy
managed to make it safely home that day, but he still felt sick to his
stomach as he got off the bus.
Billy’s mom:
How was school today?
Billy:
fine.
Billy’s mom:
Did you learn anything new?
Billy:
no
Billy’s mom:
Is everything ok? You’re so quiet. You want something to eat?
Billy:
I’m fine, but I don’t feel good.
Billy’s mom:
What’s wrong?
Billy:
My stomach hurts. I’m just going to lay down for awhile.
Narrator 1:
Billy stayed in his room all night. He didn’t
even want dinner. The next morning Billy didn’t want to go to
school.
Billy’s Dad:
Time to get up bud! Breakfast in 10 minutes. Your mom made pancakes.
You can hop in the shower.
Billy:
I’m sick. I can’t go to school today.
Billy’s Dad:
Not again Billy…what’s the matter this time?
Billy:
My stomach still hurts and I have a headache.
Billy’s Dad: You
don’t have a fever, but if you’re sick then you should stay home.
Narrator 2: Cut!
What would you do if you were Billy? How would you feel? Billy is
afraid to tell anyone what happened.
